Watch Later vs SaveMyPosts: how to save YouTube videos for later
YouTube’s Watch Later is perfect for tonight’s video. It’s less good at being the place you keep the recipe, the workout and the how-to you’ll need in three months. Here’s how to use YouTube’s own tools well — and where SaveMyPosts fits for the videos you save to use, not just to watch.
Watch Later and playlists on YouTube
- Tap Save under a video (or in its menu) and choose Watch Later or one of your playlists.
- Create playlists by topic if you save a lot — playlists can be private, unlisted or public.
- Find them in the You tab, where Watch Later and your playlists live.
For a queue of things to watch, that’s often all you need — and Watch Later plays right inside YouTube.
When Watch Later becomes a graveyard
- Everything shares one list. A two-hour documentary sits next to a 30-second Short and a carbonara recipe.
- Titles are written for clicks. “I tried this for 30 days” doesn’t tell you it was a stretching routine.
- It only knows YouTube. The same recipe you saw on Instagram or TikTok lives somewhere else.
Save YouTube videos to SaveMyPosts
- Open the post in YouTube and tap Share.
- Open the iPhone share sheet. If SaveMyPosts is not in YouTube’s own share panel, look for More or Share via… — that opens the standard iOS sheet with all your apps.
- Tap SaveMyPosts. The first time, you may need to tap More at the end of the app row and add SaveMyPosts to your favorites so it stays at the front.
- That’s it. A moment later the save has a clear title, tags, and a place in a collection such as Recipes, Places, Products, Fitness, Ideas, Watch or Fun — and a notification tells you where it landed.
Regular videos and Shorts both work. A video titled for clicks gets a title for you — “20-minute morning stretch” — and goes into Fitness, Recipes, Ideas or Watch, depending on what it is.
Use both: one for watching, one for keeping
The honest answer is that they do different jobs. Keep Watch Later for videos you’ll watch this week. Send the ones you’ll want to use — cook from, train with, follow step by step — to SaveMyPosts, where they sit next to everything else you’ve saved on the same topic.

Questions
Can I watch saved YouTube videos offline in SaveMyPosts?
No. SaveMyPosts does not download videos. It keeps the link, a preview image and the title, summary and tags it writes, and opens the video in YouTube when you tap it.
Does saving to SaveMyPosts remove a video from Watch Later?
No. SaveMyPosts never changes anything in your YouTube account and never asks you to sign in to YouTube.
Does it work with YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Share a Short the same way as a regular video and it is organized the same way.
Can I share a collection of videos with someone?
Yes. Any collection can be shared with a link that opens in a web browser, even for people who do not have the app, and you can revoke the link at any time.
