How to save Instagram Reels — and actually find them again
Tapping the bookmark under a Reel takes half a second. Finding that Reel again three months later — the pasta, the hotel, the stretch for your lower back — can take much longer. This guide covers both halves: how saving works inside Instagram, and how to keep those saves organized and searchable with SaveMyPosts.
Saving a Reel inside Instagram
Instagram’s own save button is the quickest way to keep a post:
- Tap the bookmark icon on the Reel or under the post. It fills in to show the post is saved.
- Add it to a collection (optional). Right after saving, Instagram usually offers a Save to collection option where you can pick an existing collection or create a new one.
- Find it later from your profile: open the menu and choose Saved. You’ll see all your saved posts and any collections you’ve made.
Your saved posts are private — the person who posted the Reel isn’t shown who saved it.
Where the Saved folder falls short
Instagram’s Saved folder works well for a handful of posts. It gets harder as it grows:
- Sorting is manual. Unless you pick a collection every time, everything lands in one long grid, newest first.
- It’s built for scrolling, not searching. Finding “that green pasta” usually means scrolling past hundreds of thumbnails.
- It only holds Instagram. The recipe you saved on TikTok and the tutorial in your YouTube Watch Later live somewhere else entirely.
- Nothing comes back on its own. A save you forget about stays forgotten.
Save Reels to SaveMyPosts in two taps
SaveMyPosts is an iPhone app that keeps saves from every app in one library. You don’t connect your Instagram account or give it a password — you just share the Reel to it:
- Open the post in Instagram and tap the Share (paper plane) icon.
- Open the iPhone share sheet. If SaveMyPosts is not in Instagram’s own share panel, look for More or Share via… — that opens the standard iOS sheet with all your apps.
- Tap SaveMyPosts. The first time, you may need to tap More at the end of the app row and add SaveMyPosts to your favorites so it stays at the front.
- That’s it. A moment later the save has a clear title, tags, and a place in a collection such as Recipes, Places, Products, Fitness, Ideas, Watch or Fun — and a notification tells you where it landed.
Behind the scenes, AI reads the caption and the preview image and writes a title you’d actually recognise, like “Pesto farfalle, ready in 20 minutes” instead of a caption full of hashtags. Later, you can search by what you remember — search matches on meaning as well as exact words.
Instagram Saved vs SaveMyPosts
They work well together: keep using Instagram’s bookmark for quick saves, and share the ones you’ll want to act on to SaveMyPosts.
| Feature | Instagram Saved | SaveMyPosts |
|---|---|---|
| What it holds | Instagram posts and Reels | Instagram, TikTok, X, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn and web links |
| Organizing | Collections you pick by hand | Automatic collections, plus your own with a name, color and emoji |
| Finding a save | Scroll the grid | Search by meaning and keywords |
| Resurfacing | You go looking | “One year ago today”, a weekly digest and a monthly recap |
| Sharing a set | Inside Instagram | A link anyone can open in a browser |
Three habits that keep saves useful
- Save with a reason. If you’ll cook it, visit it or buy it, send it to SaveMyPosts so it lands in Recipes, Places or Products.
- Make a collection per plan. A trip, a renovation or a gift list each deserve their own collection — and you can share it with whoever is planning with you.
- Let old saves come back. Memories and recaps are the reason a save made in July is still useful in December.
Questions
Can other people see the Reels I save on Instagram?
No. Instagram saves are private to you, and the creator is not told who saved their post. Saves in SaveMyPosts are private too, unless you choose to share a collection with a link.
Does SaveMyPosts download the Instagram video?
No. It keeps the link, the public preview image and the title, summary and tags it writes for you. The video itself stays on Instagram and opens there when you tap the save.
Will deleting a save in SaveMyPosts remove it from Instagram?
No. The two are completely independent. Removing a save in SaveMyPosts never changes anything in your Instagram account, and SaveMyPosts never asks for your Instagram password.
Can I add posts I saved on Instagram before?
Yes. Open any post from your Instagram Saved folder and share it to SaveMyPosts the same way. It is organized just like a new save.
Is SaveMyPosts free?
It is free to download and includes a limited number of free saves. SaveMyPosts Pro removes the limit and is available weekly, monthly or yearly; the yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial where available.
